Japanese lengends say that Japan was founded in 600 BC by Emperor Jimmu, who apparently was a direct descendant of the sun goddess, and ancestor to the current imperial family.

However, history shows that people inhabited Japan since around 10,000 BC, and they were hunter/gatherers. The Chinese wrote stories about Japan, calling it " Yamatai". Around 400 BC, Japan had already established a form of monarchical government. Their government changed very little throughout the next 1600 years.

Budhism was introduced in Japan around 500 AD. Budhism is the fourth largest religion in the world. It was first founded in India by Siddhartha Gautama. This religion believes in karma, dharma, and reincarnation.

Japan was a major player in World War 2. They were on the axis side, fighting against us. They were responsible for the Pearl Harbor attack, which got the US involved in the war in the first place. The allies wanted the US to help them with the war for a long time, but the US only started to aid their own associates when their own welfare was put under threat.
