Food:
The food is usually rice and vegetables sometimes added with dry fish. Food in Laos is similiar to Thai Food. The people of Laos perfer the gluten that is found in Sticky Rice to the white rice.
Customs:
Phithi Souane this is a common ritual that allows the peope to call back, welcome, propitiate and unite the khouane, which signifies spirit, soul, and guardian spirit with the physical body. It can be held for a farewell, welcome, birth of a baby, birthday, house warming, job promotions, harvest, new car, marriage and a New Year celebration.
Traditions:
Greetings- The "NOP" is usually a common greeting. Do this by raising your hands in a praying gesture. The higher you go, the more respect you show. If you do a hand shake also use the Lao greeting of 'Sabai Dee'.
Public Affection
Public displays of affection are not welcome, so don't kiss or cuddle in front of people. Modest dress and discreet behavior is also very important.
Sports:
Field Hockey is a traditional sport it is played with bamboo sticks and a ball made of roots.
