Japan's government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government. It has legislative, executive, and judicial branches, just like the US. The legislative, or parliament, branch is called the "Diet" and consists of a House of Representatives (480 people) and the House of Councillors (242 people). The members of these houses are elected by the Japanese people. The executive branch, or the cabinet, is led by the Prime Minister. The members are other ministers elected by the Prime Minister. The Diet elects the Prime Minister. Their supreme court is the highest court in Japan, and the judges are decided by the cabinet. The whole government supports itself. You must be over twenty years old to vote in Japan. Japan is mostly econmonically free.
